The Jacobs University was founded with the support of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, the University of Bremen, and Rice University, Houston, Texas.

1999 Officially recognized by the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen

2001 Accredited by the German Council of Science and Humanities

2001 Positively assessed by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (a German association promoting science and academic start-ups)

2004 All Bachelor’s courses approved by the German Accreditation Council (Agency ACQUIN)

2006 Winner of Schlüsselqualifikationen plus (Key Qualifications plus) competition run by Stiftung Mercator (an educational foundation) and Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft

2006 Announcement of a €200 million investment by the Jacobs Foundation, to date Europe’s largest ever private donation to a university

2008 Re-accreditation by German Council of Science and Humanities for a further ten years, highly favorable assessment of the University’s development

2010 Renewed official recognition by Free Hanseatic City of Bremen
